Artist Statement
“This is an ancient method of harvesting wood that does not take the life of a tree. My intention with this photographic documentation of this ritual harvest
is to bring awareness to this
ancient tradition. This bark will be used in my physical artworks.
Sechelt, British Columbia
Canada, was chosen because of it's giant Red Cedars (Thuja plicata).
It has been an epicenter of
this practice for thousands of
years.“

Artist Statement
On her on-going ritual work;
“By evoking all senses but
sight, my intent is to create
an environment of heightened
awareness where connection
is facilitated. My performance
is intuitive, and reflects
that moment of dialog and
reciprocity.”
On The Sechelt Bark Harvest;
“This ritual is for immediate
private impact and to create a
social ‘ripple effect’. I wanted
to appropriate tradition and
overlap cultures, connecting
people, ecology, history, and
place. These healing gestures
to the forest, speak of our
interdependence, and
re-engage a relationship.”
